We’re thrilled to share that Elk Rock Garden’s Preservation Fund, launched in September 2025, is already making a meaningful difference in restoring and maintaining our historic grounds!
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we’ve successfully:
- repaired a collapsed stone retaining wall in our upper parking lot
- rebuilt a failing set of stone steps along our cliff walk
- started restoring leaking windows on the second and third floors
- fabricated a wooden ramp to provide wheelchair access to lectures and other programming in our chapel
These improvements have greatly enhanced the beauty, safety and accessibility of our beloved garden. However, several pressing repair needs still require attention.
We must rebuild the stressed stone retaining wall and metal support structure beneath the large wisteria in our upper parking lot as soon as possible. This project alone is estimated to cost over $40,000.
We will also need to:
- repair a stone retaining wall that was damaged on New Year’s Eve by a falling tree
- replace the the decking and tighten the railings on our footbridge
- repave the pothole-ridden driveway connecting our upper and lower parking lots
- repaint the peeling exterior woodwork on our manor house and gardener’s cottage.
